MU looks to end HCAC first half on high note

The first of two meetings between Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rivals Manchester University and Anderson University concludes the first half of the 2016-17 league first half Wednesday, Jan. 18.

Game details: Tip-off time is 7:30 p.m. at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium on AU's campus … Live audio, statistics and video is available via links at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics … In recent series history, MU has won 20 of the last 25 against the Ravens, as the two sides split in 2015-16 with each team winning on its home floor.

Spartan Shorts: Freshman guard Nicole Weaver (Fort Wayne, Ind.); junior forward/center Torrie Christlieb (Culver, Ind.); and senior guard Jenifer Lee (Rockville, Ind.) continue to hold down top 10 slots on the current HCAC statistical rankings for Coach Josh Dzurick's team. Weaver's 84.4 percent free throw accuracy stays as fourth-best; Christlieb's blocked shots average per game (.9) is eighth-highest; and Lee's 35.2 percent clip in three-point field goal accuracy stands seventh. Sophomore forward/center Beth Schaefer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) is just off top 10 territory in rebounding (5.5 pg – No. 11), and sophomore center Maddy Minehart (Auburn, Ind.) is 12th in blocked shots (.7) … Trending individually, Christlieb's paint presence has been a strong one for the Spartans of late. She's averaging almost seven rebounds per outing in the span. Lee, in her last five games, has drained at least one three-point basket with multiples three times as part of a 9.2 points per game average that's allowed her season scoring total to climb five-tenths (7.7-8.2) … Manchester University seeks to reverse a recent swoon that's seen them drop four of their last five.

Second Half Starter: Earlham College comes to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena Saturday, Jan. 21. It's a women's and men's doubleheader with start times of 2 and 4 p.m.
