Manchester University returns to the court by opening the front half of an away-home week Tuesday, Dec. 27.
Game details: Tip-off between the Spartans (2-7) and Kalamazoo College (1-7) is 7 p.m. at KC's Anderson Athletic Center … Live audio, statistics and video can be accessed for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference – Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association clash via links at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of MU athletics.
Spartan Shorts: The early-week excursion is the final of three match-ups for Coach Josh Dzurick's squad against the HCAC's northern neighboring league. The Black and Gold dropped a 64-62 thriller to St. Mary's of Indiana in their season and home opener in mid-November and gave perennial power Calvin College a strong effort in a 63-50 loss at Grand Rapids late last month … MU rides a two-game streak into the contest with both victories coming in conference play. Keys that helped them jump into a four-way tie for fifth in the loop included a 15 points-per-outing average from junior center/forward Samantha Bolen (Greenwood, Ind.) in the victories over Earlham and Mt. St. Joseph that aided her climb to 11th on the HCAC scoring list (10.7 pg), within the top 15 in field goal percentage (39.3) and fourth in free throw percentage (88.2); sophomore guard/forward Beth Schaefer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) who tallied averages of 7.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in the two victories; and senior guard Jenifer Lee (Rockville, Ind.) who averaged 12 points, seven rebounds, two steals and an assist and a blocked shot versus both opponents while hitting on five-of-11 three-point field goal attempts … Joining Bolen on the conference's top statistical numbers are freshman guard Nicole Weaver (Fort Wayne, Ind.) (No. 6 – FT pct. – 83.3) and junior center/forward Torrie Christlieb (Culver, Ind.) (No. 7 – blocked shots – 1.1 pg).
Regular Season Non-Conference Slate Ends: Rust College of Holly Springs, Miss., takes a southern journey to North Manchester for a 1 p.m. tip-off at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena Saturday, Dec. 31.
