Black and Gold close unbeaten week

RICHMOND, IND. – Another quick start and a balanced scoring attack made for a successful recipe for Manchester University Saturday, Jan. 23.

The Spartans, moving to 6-11 overall and 4-6 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, registered 20 of the game's first 28 points and put four players in double digits in route to a 74-60 victory at Earlham College's Athletic and Wellness Center. Senior guard Justine Kruger (Francisville, Ind.) recorded a single-game career high 19 points on eight-of-10 shooting which included hitting one-of-three three-point attempts and going a perfect two-for-two at the charity stripe. Her afternoon didn't stop there, either, as she also corralled a team-leading seven rebounds, picked off a squad-best three steals and dished out two assists in 28 minutes.

A trio of MU players followed their senior teammate in the scoring column. Freshman guard Faith-Alexis Graham (Indianapolis, Ind.) also had a single-game career high points-wise with 12 which was highlighted by a perfect two-for-two effort from outside the arc to go with four assists, good for the team lead, and two steals; junior guard Jenifer Lee (Rockville, Ind.), concluding a strong week in which she recorded a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds against Anderson University and the Quakers, tallied 10 points off the bench; and senior guard Katie Arterburn (Indianapolis, Ind.) added 10 points and was perfect from the field (four-for-four) and outside the arc (two-for-two). She also dished out three assists and picked off two steals.

The Black and Gold, staying in a three-way tie for fifth on the HCAC standings with Hanover College and Mt. St. Joseph University, takes its two-game win skein on the road Wednesday, Jan. 27. They take on Franklin College at the Spurlock Center on FC's campus at 7:30 p.m.

NOTES: Lee wasn't the only Spartans' player to conclude the week with a double-double. Kruger also did with 25 points and 11 rebounds, both team bests … MU's team numbers during the win streak have been impressive. They've averaged 69.5 points, hit 50 percent from the field which included a blistering 51.9 percent from outside the arc (14-of-27) and grabbed 37 rebounds per contest … The victory concluded a season series sweep for the Spartans, part of a run in which they've won 11 of the last 13 all-time.
