Away and home week begins with Bluffton trip

Manchester University closes a brief two-game road swing Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Game details: Tipoff time is 7:30 p.m. at BU's Sommer Center … Live audio, statistics and video can be accessed via a link at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics … The home team is off to a 13-0 overall and 6-0 HCAC mark that leads the loop by a game, while the Spartans bring in a 4-9 overall and 2-4 league record.

Spartan Shorts: Going into an away-and-home week, MU sits within the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's top six. They're tied with Defiance College of Ohio and Anderson University for sixth, just a game behind Hanover College in fifth … Senior guard Katie Arterburn (Indianapolis, Ind.), the team's points per game (10.2) and three-point field goal percentage (40) leader, is just outside the league's top five in three-point field accuracy, ranking No. 6. She's close to the top 15 in scoring, too (No. 16). Sophomore forward Tori Christlieb (Culver, Ind.) also holds residence in an HCAC top 15, doing so in field goal percentage (No. 13 – 43.5 pct.) … The Spartans look to pull themselves out of a recent doldrums where they've dropped five of their last six. Sophomore forward Samantha Bolen (Greenwood, Ind.) gave a strong effort to lead them upward at Rose-Hulman last weekend, tallying a personal single-game career high 16 points. Her sixth double-figure scoring output wasn't enough to overcome a red-hot shooting Fightin' Engineer crew, as MU was upended 70-45 … Bluffton has won six of the last eight in the series including claiming two of three in the 2014-15 edition, but Manchester University holds a 16-9 advantage in the all-time record dating back through 2004-05.

Transylvania Twinbill: The Pioneers of Lexington, Kentucky, come to North Manchester Saturday, Jan. 16, for a conference doubleheader. Game times are 1 p.m. for the women and 3 p.m. for the men.
