Spartan Shorts: The Black and Gold opened a three-game week with a 61-45 win over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association member Kalamazoo College Dec. 15. Sophomore forward Tori Christlieb (Culver, Ind.) led the attack compiling her second double-double in the last three contests with a personal single-game career high 21 points to go with 10 rebounds … Christlieb's scoring and rebounding averages are on the rise due to her recent roll. Her points per game totals are up more than 2.5 points (6-8.6) and over a rebound (5.5-6.7) in a span of the last three games … The sophomore forward and senior guard Katie Arterburn (Indianapolis, Ind.) top the Spartans' scoring chart through seven games, each averaging 8.6 points per contest. Christlieb is also the team leader in rebounding (6.7 per game) and field goal percentage (53.3), while Arterburn headlines the three-point shooting category (14 of 44 – 31.8 pct.); senior guard Justine Kruger (Francisville, Ind.) leads the way in assists (22) and steals (11); and fellow senior guard Kelcey Daugherty (Greenwood, Ind.) is first in blocked shots (three) … Christlieb's field goal shooting accuracy plays well on the current Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference statistics, too, as she stands third-highest, while her rebounding statistics are ninth-best. Kruger's assists and steals totals also rank in two league top 10s (assists – No. 7/steals – T-10th) … The Spartans have split their last four holiday break tournament trips. A year ago, they defeated St. Mary's College of Indiana and dropped a decision to the University of St. Thomas of Minnesota at Carthage College of Illinois' tourney.
