HANOVER, IND. - Sophomore guard Justine Kruger (Francisville, Ind.) compiled 14 points, topping 10 Manchester University players in the scoring column Saturday, Jan. 18.
Kruger's third double-figure scoring total in the last four games wasn't enough for the Spartans (8-7 overall, 5-3 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference). Hanover (7-8, 5-3) jumped out to a 23-9 lead and continued to build on it throughout the afternoon en route to an 83-64 win.
Kruger added six rebounds, a blocked shot, an assist and a steal to her points' total. Sophomore guard Kelcey Daugherty (Greenwood, Ind.), senior forward Erynn Meiklejohn (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and freshman guard Jenifer Lee (Rockville, Ind.) added seven points apiece. Junior center Alyssa Hammond (Osgood, Ind.) snared a team best eight rebounds.
Manchester University returns to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena Wednesday, Jan. 22, to begin a brief two-game home stand. Bluffton University of Ohio is the opponent for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
NOTES: Going into the final game of the conference's first half, the Spartans are part of a three-way tie for third and trail second place Franklin by just a game … Kruger's recent roll has helped her points per game average bump up better than a point and a half (4.7 – 6.3) … Junior guard Jocelyn Hamilton (Columbus, Ind.) continued her multiple assist game streak, moving to 15 consecutive with three … Hammond's rebound total marked the fourth time this season she's grabbed eight boards in a game.
