Manchester University opens a nine-game schedule in the first month of the New Year Saturday, Jan. 4. The Spartans host the College of Mt. St. Joseph of Ohio.

Spartan Shorts: Junior guard Jocelyn Hamilton (Columbus, Ind.) continues to lead the HCAC in assists. Her 5.4 per game average eclipses the remainder of the conference by a half-an-assist. Senior forward Erynn Meiklejohn (Fort Wayne, Ind.) is also ranked high in blocked shots. Her 1.3 per game are tied for fourth-best, while her 11.7 points per game are within the top 15 at No. 14 … Manchester University is coming off a split at the Albion College of Michigan Classic Dec. 28 and 29. The Spartans, moving their season record to 6-4, held off a strong second half comeback attempt to stop the host Britons 42-40 during the second day after being topped by Olivet College 83-70 in first day competition. Meiklejohn, averaging seven points and four and a half rebounds to go with six blocked shots and four steals, earned her second all-tournament award of the season, while junior forward Abby Lang (Indianapolis, Ind.), who registered a single-game career high 10 rebounds against Albion as part of her weekend totals, picked up her first such award … The Black and Gold's 3-0 conference record is the program's best league start since the 2008-09 squad opened with a similar mark. The three victories each occurred on the road which is MU's best league road win streak since 2010-11 … MU has claimed seven straight and 14 wins in the last 15 contests against the College of Mt. St. Joseph. MSJ's lone decision in the span occurred in the first 2009-10 meeting. Close finishes have been the norm with eight of the last 15 being decided by nine points or less.

Franklin Season Series Begins: Manchester University hosts Franklin College in women's action, while the two men's teams play at the Spurlock Center on FC's campus Wednesday, Jan. 8. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.
