Black and Gold resume 2013-14 campaign this weekend

A four-game win streak is in tow Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 28 and 29, as Manchester University returns to action at the Albion College of Michigan Classic.

Game specifics: Tip-off against Olivet College of Michigan is 6 p.m. tonight, and start time against the host Britons is 4 p.m. Sunday at Kresge Gymnasium on Albion's campus … Live statistics can be accessed for both games at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics.

Spartan Shorts: The Black and Gold's current skein is the program's longest since 2011-12 … A strong defensive effort has been one of the keys to the run. MU has held the opposition to just 45 points and just over 30 percent field goal shooting per game … Senior forward Erynn Meiklejohn (Fort Wayne, Ind.) has also been on a hot streak, averaging 17 points and just under five rebounds per contest (4.5) while blocking six opponent shot attempts and picking up nine steals over the same four-game period. Junior forward Abby Lang (Indianapolis, Ind.) has also displayed strong numbers in the span with nine points per game and 50 percent field goal shooting … Junior guard Jocelyn Hamilton (Columbus, Ind.) continues to lead the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in assists, averaging six per contest. Meiklejohn is in the top 10 in scoring (12.9 ppg – 10th) and blocked shots (.9 pg – T-7th), while sophomore guard Katie Arterburn (Indianapolis, Ind.) is 10th in three-point field goal accuracy (36.4 percent) … This weekend's games at Albion conclude a set of five against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association competition. Manchester University stands 2-1 so far with wins over Kalamazoo and Trine and a loss to Calvin earlier this season.

HCAC Schedule Continues: MU begins a string of back-to-back home games Saturday, Jan. 4, as the College of Mt. St. Joseph of Ohio visits Stauffer-Wolfe Arena for a 1 p.m. contest. It's part of a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader, as the two men's squads play at 3 p.m.
