Rose-Hulman trip, Trine home game next for Black and Gold

A Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Rose-Hulman Saturday, Dec. 14, and a women's non-conference home game against in-state rival Trine University Monday, Dec. 16, are on Manchester University's weekly calendar.

Game specifics: Tip-off time at Rose-Hulman's Hulbert Center in Terre Haute, Ind., is 2 p.m. Saturday. Spartan Shorts: Manchester University enters the final two games of 2013 on a modest two-game win skein. Both of the victories occurred on the road last week, as they toppled Defiance College of Ohio and Earlham College to move to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in HCAC action … At this early stage, the two league wins have them tied for first on the conference standings with Transylvania University … Three MU players are within the current HCAC top five statistically. Junior guard Jocelyn Hamilton (Columbus, Ind.), who has accumulated 38 assists in six games, leads the way in assists per game (6.3), sophomore guard Katie Arterburn (Indianapolis, Ind.) has risen to second in three-point field goal accuracy (45.8), and sophomore center Stephanie Barmes (Greenwood, Ind.) is fifth in field goal percentage (51.4) … Hamilton's assist numbers and Arterburn's three-point percentage have also made a splash on the NCAA Division III statistics report. They are both in the top 40, for games played through Dec. 8, with Hamilton ranking 14th and Arterburn at No. 38 … Senior forward Erynn Meiklejohn (Fort Wayne, Ind.) remains the team's scoring leader averaging 11 points a game. Junior center Alyssa Hammond (Osgood, Ind.) tops the team in rebounding (5.8 per game) … Since Rose-Hulman's entry into the conference prior to the 2006-07 academic year, Manchester University has won 11 of the 15 series' meetings. The two teams split their decisions a year ago with each one winning on the other's home floor … Trine claimed last year's contest 53-42 at Angola. MU's most recent win over the Thunder occurred during the 2008-09 season.

Christmas Break Games: MU's women's squad faces Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponents Olivet College and Albion College Dec. 28 and 29 at Kresge Gymnasium on Albion's campus as part of a quadrangular with fellow HCAC member Defiance College of Ohio.
