Softball Sweeps Rose-Hulman on the Road

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Manchester softball team got balanced contributions up and down the lineup as it cruised past the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers in a pair of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference road games on Friday night.

The Spartans took game one by a final score of 13-2 in 5 innings.  Manchester University completed the sweep with an 8-1 win in game two.

Every Spartan starter got at least one hit and four players had multi-hit efforts as Manchester rolled to a 13-2 win in the first game on Friday evening. Manchester scored at least one run in all five innings; a five-run third highlighted the Manchester offensive output. 

Senior Krystal Sellers (Bourbon, Ind. / Triton) went 2-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.  The HCAC's top hitter, Katelynn Skeens (Gas City, Ind. / Mississinewa) went 2-4 with two RBI.  Sophomore Haley Perez (Portage, Ind. / Portage) hit her third home run of the season in the top of the third. Perez pitched all five innings and gave up just five hits, two runs and one earned run.

Game Two – Manchester 8, Rose-Hulman 1 – Box Score

The Spartans completed the sweep of the Fightin' Engineers with a 8-1 victory in game two.

Manchester was efficient again offensively, scoring eight runs on 13 hits.  Five Spartans collected two or more hits in the win. Six different players drove in a run.

Zoie Penn (Clinton, Ind. / Riverton Parke) led the offense with two doubles.  She also scored two times.  Krystal Sellers had three hits in four at-bats. Katelynn Skeens also had an RBI double. 

Lizzie Smith (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) threw six strong innings to help the Spartans defeat the Engineers.  Smith allowed just one run on four hits.

The Manchester Spartans will host league-leading Mount St. Joseph tomorrow, Saturday April 27, at 12:30 p.m. at the Manchester Softball Field.  MU will honor its four seniors: Krystal Sellers, Katelynn Skeens, Miranda Boggs, and Sydney Thompson before first pitch.

Saturday's games were originally scheduled for 1 p.m. but were moved up to a 12:30 start due to weather forecasts.
