NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – Senior third baseman Katelynn Skeens (Gas City, Ind. / Mississinewa) was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week on Monday April 8.
Skeens has been a force at the plate all season and currently leads the league with a .469 batting average and 19 RBI. Skeens also sits third in the conference ranks with a .625 slugging percentage. Katelynn has totaled 30 hits, four doubles, and two home runs this spring. She has only struck out three times in 64 at-bats.
Last week, Katelynn guided the Spartans to a 3-1 start in league play. Manchester split a pair of games at Bluffton on Tuesday and then swept Hanover on Saturday. Skeens went 9-16 with one double, one home run, four runs scored and nine RBI against HCAC competition. She also added a hit against nationally ranked Trine and finished last week 10-20 at the plate.
Manchester (8-10, 3-1 HCAC) will host rival Anderson on Thursday April 11 at 3:30 pm at the Manchester Softball Field.
