ORLANDO, FLA. – Manchester University crushed four home runs Friday, March 23, to close out its 2018 spring break trip at .500.
Senior second baseman Laurren Ladwig (Crown Point, Ind.) and junior third baseman Kate Skeens (Gas City, Ind.) each delivered a pair of big flies to aid in a 9-5 victory over Juniata College of Pennsylvania and a 10-1, five-inning triumph over Union College of New York. The two wins for Coach Josh Dzurick's squad left them 7-7 overall and 5-5 during their Sunshine State stay.
Senior Madisyn Walter (Hanna, Ind.) and freshman Alex Whittig (Hartford City, Ind.) benefitted from the fireworks display. Walter fired a complete –game win over Union, striking out four in five frames, and Whittig earned her first collegiate victory, battling through six and a third versus Juniata with three punch outs.
MU returns to action Monday, March 26, hosting Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe St. Mary's. First pitch is 3:30 p.m.
NOTES: Ladwig, resuming a remarkable 2018 for the Black and Gold offense, tied her single-season program record for home runs, as the three-run bomb was the 11th in just 14 contests. She also went over the 100-RBI mark for her career.
