ORLANDO, FLA. – Early-inning rallies by the opposition in each game Wednesday, March 21, sent Manchester University to a pair of defeats.
Benedictine University of Illinois plated a combined five runs in the second and third frames in route to a 7-3 decision. Maryville College of Tennessee broke open a scoreless tie in the third and sent nine tallies across the plate over the final four innings as part of a 9-1, six-inning triumph.
There were still highlights for Coach Josh Dzurick's crew in the wake of the outcomes. Sophomore outfielder Shakira Perez (Elkhart, Ind.) turned in two hits and freshman shortstop Alexis Mokos (St. John, Ind.) and senior designated player Mallorie Jennings (Bourbon, Ind.) each ripped two-baggers versus Maryville, while junior outfielder Krystal Sellers (Bourbon, Ind.) finished with two hits and scored a run against Benedictine. The opening-game offensive attack also saw senior second baseman Laurren Ladwig (Crown Point, Ind.), Mokos and freshman outfielder Kendal Torrence (Lowell, Ind.) produce doubles. In the circle, the first-year duo of Hailey Rivard (Teknosha, Mich.) and Haley Perez (Portage, Ind.) managed to curb the opposing offenses to the tune of one earned run on three hits over three innings combined out of the bullpen.
