BLUFFTON, OHIO – Sophomore third baseman Kate Skeens (Gas City, Ind.) and junior second baseman Laurren Ladwig (Crown Point, Ind.) each collected multiple-hit efforts, guiding Manchester University in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference twinbill at Bluffton University Wednesday, April 26.
Skeens belted two safeties and a double in the opener, as part of a strong recent roll in which she's delivered multiple-hit outings in five of her last eight contests. Ladwig equaled her underclasswoman teammate in the second contest with similar results for her 11th multiple-safety performance, a mark that ties Skeens and freshman first baseman Shakira Perez (Elkhart, Ind.) for the team lead.
Even with those results, the Spartans dropped to 13-21-1 and 3-9 in the conference with 11-1 and 8-0 losses to the perennial loop power Beavers at the Emory Sears Athletic Complex. Both contests went five innings.
Manchester University wraps up its 2017 regular season with conference doubleheaders against Transylvania University Saturday, April 29, and Anderson University Sunday, April 30.
