HANOVER, IND. – Junior Madisyn Walter (Hanna, Ind.) reeled off her fifth successive outing of five innings or more Sunday, April 23, to lead Manchester University to a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference split at Hanover College's Kops-Bedel Stadium.
Firing only 86 pitches, 57 of which were strikes, Walter worked around 11 Panther hits and two walks, picking up her 10th complete game and eighth decision of the season. Meanwhile, at the dish, Coach Josh Dzurick's squad, moving to 12-18-1 overall and 3-7 in the HCAC, broke up a 2-2 tie with two scores in the third and three more in the fifth as part of a 7-3 win. Sophomore third baseman Kate Skeens (Gas City, Ind.) drove in a pair of tallies with two hits, while freshman first baseman Shakira Perez (Elkhart, Ind.) and senior left fielder Emilee Liston (Cicero, Ind.) both registered two hits, too.
In the opener, freshman Tristyn Koon (Kokomo, Ind.) kept the Spartans close, wandering around five home team hits and one run over the first two frames for a 1-0 score, but in the third, Hanover erupted for eight runs on six hits with two Black and Gold errors included. Manchester University couldn't break through against Sydney Griffin, falling 9-0 in five innings.
The Spartans continue a span of 10 games in eight days, hosting Alma College of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Monday, April 24. First pitch at Spartan Field is 3:30 p.m.
