KALAMAZOO, MICH. – Late rallies in both ends of a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference – Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader for host Kalamazoo College subdued Manchester University Tuesday, March 7.
Manchester University, fall to 0-3-1, tied up the Hornets 1-1 after a run-scoring single by sophomore third baseman Kate Skeens (Gas City, Ind.) in the third inning of the opener before Kalamazoo rolled up five runs over the fifth and sixth for a 6-1 decision. The nightcap saw Coach Josh Dzurick's crew hold a 3-1 edge after five and a half and 4-3 lead after six and half but, in each case, the home bats answered the bell for a 5-4 victory.
Skeens finished her afternoon at KC's softball field with three safeties in six at-bats. She was joined by fellow sophomore Krystal Sellers (Bourbon, Ind.) at the top of the offensive chart, as she was two-for-three with two RBIs and drilled a double in the second game as a designated hitter.
The Spartans' weekend schedule has changed due to forecast inclement weather for the Centre College of Danville, Ky., area. Their doubleheader with Adrian College of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association set for Saturday, March 11, at Centre has been cancelled, while their twinbill against the host Praying Colonels is still on with a 12 p.m. start time Sunday, March 12.
