Three top two picks spotlight MU on all-HCAC squads

The left side of Manchester University's infield topped its list of five members on the 2014 all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honor teams released Wednesday, May 7.

MU, concluding its campaign with an 11-23 overall and 7-9 conference record, had senior third baseman Kylie Planck (Valparaiso, Ind.) and junior shortstop Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) named to the first team. The number two and three ranked hitters on the Spartans' squad at .347 and .330, respectively, Planck earned her second first team and third overall selection, while Willmann's first team slot was her first such and second overall recognition after having been on the honorable mention  squad in 2013.

Planck's average included six triples and 42 hits, both firsts for the program, while she was also a perfect 14-for-14 on the basepaths. Willmann laced eight doubles and a home run as part of her 36-hit effort and was also among the league's stolen base leaders with 15 in 17 attempts.

Freshman outfielder Emilee Liston (Cicero, Ind.), the Black and Gold's leading hitter at .378, was placed on the second team, while sophomore designated player/outfielder/infielder/catcher Kaile Niezgodski (South Bend, Ind.) was tabbed to the honorable mention group, and sophomore pitcher/catcher/infielder/designated player MacKenzie Williams (Kendallville, Ind.) was MU's Sportsmanship Team selection. Niezgodski and Williams each were noted on the all-HCAC lists for a second time.

Manchester University continued a strong run of success on the all-HCAC annals with its two first team picks marking the 18th time in 20 years they've had multiple honorees.
