ANDERSON, IND. – Manchester University turned in a 13-hit attack with four of the extra base variety included, but Anderson University turned in 5-1 and 8-5 victories in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action Tuesday, April 1.
Sophomore infielder/pitcher MacKenzie Williams (Kendallville, Ind.) and junior pitcher/infielder Ashlea Nash (Gas City, Ind.) each delivered home runs, while senior infielder Kylie Planck (Valparaiso, Ind.) and freshman outfielder Megan Stouder (Bremen, Ind.) added two-baggers for the Spartan offense. Williams joined Planck with a team-best three hits in the twinbill.
AU (11-2 overall, 4-0 HCAC) broke up tightly-contested affairs with big innings. In the opener, the Ravens scored five runs over the fifth and sixth frames and shut off a Spartan rally that tallied a run and left two on base. MU bolted out to a 4-1 lead after two and a half in the night before the home team put up four in the fourth and two in the sixth to overturn the deficit.
Manchester University (3-11 overall, 0-2 HCAC) continues league play with back-to-back home twinbills Saturday and Sunday, April 5 and 6. The Spartans welcome Franklin College Saturday and Hanover College Sunday.
