NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – After earning their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title since 2016 two weeks ago, the Manchester University men's cross country team will have its sights set on the Great Lakes Regional meet, hosted by Calvin in Michigan on Saturday November 16.
The Spartans had several notable performances at the 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference back on November 2. Junior Lucas Fontanez (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) captured the HCAC individual title on Sunday, claiming first place with a time of 26:41, nearly 10 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Senior Sam Barnard (Indianapolis, Ind./Scecina Memorial) placed sixth overall at the HCAC Championships with a time of 27:06. Freshman Enrique Salazar (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) was the third Spartan to cross the finish line on Sunday, finishing in 10th place with a time of 27:21. Senior Daniel Baker (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) registered a top-15 finish, finishing in 13th place with an overall time of 27:24. Cameron Walton (Indianapolis, Ind./Cardinal Ritter) placed 16th with a time 27:45.
Fontanez, Barnard, and Salazar all earned All-HCAC honors on Sunday afternoon. Fontanez was the HCAC MVP while Salazar was named the HCAC Freshman of the Year. Both Baker and Walton garnered Honorable Mention All-HCAC honors after their performances.
