SHELBYVILLE, IND. - Manchester's men's cross country team placed third, and had three top 15 performers at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships on Saturday at Blue River Cross Country Course.
The Spartans scored 91 points to place third at the HCAC meet, with sophomore Lucas Fontanez (Lowell, Ind.) leading Manchester after placing sixth in 26 minutes and 28 seconds. Junior Daniel Baker (Okemos, Mich.) was the second top performer for Manchester placing ninth with a time of 26:43. Finishing out the top 15 was junior Samuel Barnard (Indianapolis, Ind.) with a 12th place finish (26:54). Fontanez, Baker, and Barnard earned first team all-league honors.
Rose-Hulman claimed the men's team title with 45 points, and had two top-five finishers. Hanover placed second with 86 points, and the Panther's senior Jacob Hendrick won the individual title in a time of 25:59. Rounding out the top five team scores were Earlham placing fourth with 105 points, and Franklin placing fifth with 117 points.
The Spartans will be traveling back to Blue River Cross Country Course to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional, on Nov. 10.
