Shelbyville, Indiana, is the host site and Mount St. Joseph is the hosting university for the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday, October 27.
MEET DETAILS: The meet will take place at Blue River Memorial Park in Shelbyville, Ind. The Black and Gold men's team will race at noon, with the women's race to follow at 1pm. Live results can be tracked via a link at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics.
SPARTAN SHORTS: MU's women's team looks to win their seventh cross country title, after being picked to win the HCAC championship is the pre-season championship poll with 92 points and five first place votes. Junior Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.), senior Samina Qureshi (Columbia City, Ind.), and freshman Kelsey Tyler (Rochester, Ind.) were all placed as Runners to Watch for the championship meet this weekend. After the team finished runner-up to Rose Hulman a year ago, Wappes was the HCAC runner up to Bluffton's Alexis Cash, and Qureshi placed fifth. Top returners for the men's team are sophomore Lucas Fontanez (Lowell, Ind.), and juniors Samuel Barnard (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Daniel Baker (Okemos, Mich.), whom all made the Runners to Watch section for this weekend's championship event as well. At last year's HCAC meet, Barnard placed 23rd, Fontanez placed 30th, and Baker placed 32nd. The men's team look to earn a top five finish after being picked to finish fourth in the pre-season championship poll with 72 points, after finishing fourth a year ago.
