"Honor comes from playing by the rules" is inscribed on the R. Wayne Smith ’49 Gate; the red brick and black iron structure is the entrance way leading to Manchester University’s track and field facilities. The venue, highlighted by a nine-lane all-weather track surface, also features hammer and discus cages, two cement shot put areas and two long jump runways as well as high jump and pole vault competition areas.
Serving as the practice site for the outdoor track and field season, the venue is also used to host Manchester University's Spartan Track Classic each spring.
The annual invitational brings a competition field of at least six universities and colleges to North Manchester. The facility has also hosted Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships with the most recent being in 2013.
