NAPERVILLE, ILL. – Manchester University closed the 2018 regular season in style Thursday, May 16.
Junior jumps specialist Justin Meredith (Shelbyville, Ind.) turned heads in the long jump, hitting the sand at better than 21 feet for the first time in his Black and Gold career. His 21-foot, six-inch mark was good for fifth-farthest in program history and the event standings. Senior men's sprinter Harrison Hollis (Lebanon, Ind.) completed a top-notch collegiate athletics' career, racing to first 10s in the 100 (11.13 seconds – 10th place) and 200 (22.48 seconds – sixth place).
Sophomore women's distance standout Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.) reset the program's 1500-meter school record for a third successive meet, with her 4:35.87 effort ending fourth. The women's throws trio of seniors Jacey Cauhorn (Kendallville, Ind.) and Kara Brueckman (Crown Point, Ind.) and sophomore Austin Jones (Lapel, Ind.) turned top fives too, as Cauhorn went over 40 meters for a fourth successive outing in the discus, tossing the oval 133 feet, seven inches for runner-up honors, and Jones and Brueckman, going three-four in the hammer, both set new personal career bests with Jones sending the orb and chain 157 feet, eight inches, and Breuckman launching it 156 feet, three inches. They now stand second and third, respectively, on MU's all-time list.
