UPLAND, IND. – Sophomore Austin Roberts (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior Justin Meredith (Shelbyville, Ind.) resumed a strong early-season theme for Manchester University's field event successes Saturday, April 7.
Just a week removed from three top-five marks in the long and triple jumps at Hanover College, the duo spotlighted the Spartans' resume during a blustery spring afternoon at Taylor University's George Glass Track and Field Complex. Roberts earned his first collegiate event victory outdoors, soaring 21 feet, a half-inch (6.42 meters) in the long jump, and Meredith hit the sand at 12.35 meters to take first in the triple jump. Meredith was also fifth in the long jump (5.84 meters), and freshman Joseph Powell (Beach Park, Ill.) and sophomore De'Lon Barnes (Los Angeles, Calif.) wound up third and fifth, respectively, in the triple jump (12.05 meters/11.47 meters).
On the track for Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Brian Cashdollar's squad, senior Harrison Hollis sprinted to a pair of top fives in the 100 and 200. The Lebanon, Ind., native hit the tape in 11.44 seconds in the 100, leading a three-through-five Spartans' finish with senior Austin Coughlin (Fairland, Ind.) and freshman Nick Surber (Hebron, Ind.). His 22.7-second clocking in the 200 left him fourth.
Manchester University returns to action Saturday, April 14, as part of the field at the 2018 Indiana Little State Championships hosted by DePauw University of Greencastle, Ind.
