DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Manchester University tennis team earned its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win of 2019 on Tuesday evening after topping the host Defiance College Yellow Jackets by a 7-2 final.
The Spartans got off to a good start in Tuesday's match after claiming all three doubles matches. Connor Eichenauer and Isaac Miller paired for an 8-3 win at the No. 1 doubles flight. Bailey Buhrt and Samuel Hollingsworth battled to an 9-8 (7-3) win at No. 2 doubles. Gavin Eads and Dalton Bailey rounded out doubles play with an 8-6 victory at the No. 3 flight.
In singles action, Isaac Miller notched a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 2 flight. Bailey Buhrt won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Samuel Hollingsworth battled to a three-set victory, rallying for a 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 win at No. 4 singles. Andrew Kibler rounded out the Manchester scoring with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 6 flight.
The Spartans improved to 3-4 in 2018-19 and moved to 1-1 in league play. Defiance slid to 2-8, 0-3 HCAC this season. Manchester will host Earlham College on Saturday April 6 at Noon at the Manchester Tennis Courts.
