NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University started a busy weekend of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action Friday, April 13.
Interim head coach Dr. Wendy Hoffman's squad battled league co-leader and Intercollegiate Tennis Association top 20 regionally ranked Rose-Hulman at the campus' outdoor courts. Despite an 8-1 loss to the high-powered Fightin' Engineers, the Spartans (1-6 overall, 1-2 HCAC) managed some silver lining.
Topping the list was the number three doubles squad of seniors Kyler Love (North Webster, Ind.) and Garrett Bear (Indianapolis, Ind.) earned the team point, winning 8-5 over Ben Strate and Jacob Pluta. The victory upped their program-leading season record to 4-2. Bear nearly added a second point, taking the second set from Brendan Goldacker 6-2 after a 6-1 first set defeat, but Goldacker claimed the match with a 6-2 third set decision.
The Black and Gold resume a run of five straight home duals Saturday, April 14, hosting Franklin College. First serve is 2:30 p.m. at the Warsaw Tennis and Fitness Club.
