NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Victories in five of six singles contests and a sweep of doubles play bolstered Manchester University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action Wednesday, April 11.
Seniors Spencer Thomas (Yorktown, Ind.), Garrett Bear (Indianapolis, Ind.), and Kyler Lover (North Webster, Ind.) joined junior Connor Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind.) and freshman Isaac Miller (Goshen, Ind.) came up winners in singles play, helping guide Dr. Wendy Hoffman to her first triumph as the program's interim head coach. Bear and Miller were especially in control allowing their Defiance College opponents only three game victories as part of straight-set decisions.
It was more of the same for the Black and Gold in regards to doubles' competition in front of an appreciative crowd at the campus' outdoor courts. Love and Bear, moving to 3-2 on the young season, rolled 8-1 at number three just as Eichenauer and Miller did in the second slot. Senior Isaac Collis (Alexandria, Ind.) and Thomas teamed up at number one and claimed an 8-5 win.
The Spartans, going to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the league, continue a busy span Friday, April 13. Rose-Hulman, an HCAC co-leader with Earlham College, comes to North Manchester for a 3 p.m. start.
NOTES: Love and Miller continue to be tied atop the singles win ladder. They both sport 3-3 records.
