RICHMOND, IND. – Earlham College remained one of two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference unbeaten Sunday, April 8, upending Manchester University 9-0 at the Richmond High School courts.
Dr. Wendy Hoffman's team, in the wake of slipping to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in league competition, received strong battles at number five singles from senior Spencer Thomas (Yorktown, Ind.) and the number two doubles pairing of junior Connor Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind.) and freshman Isaac Miller (Goshen, Ind.). Thomas claimed four games in the first set and three in the second against the Quakers' Brandon Giordanelli, and Eichenauer and Miller ended just two games shy of a team point, falling 8-6 to Nicola Manni and Joaquin Lerner.
The Spartans return to the courts Wednesday, April 11, to start a run of five straight home duals with Defiance College's visit to North Manchester. First serve is 4:30 p.m.
