DEFIANCE, OHIO - Although Manchester University dropped a second straight Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday, April 12, Coach Eric Christiansen's teams did get some positives during its clash with Defiance College.
Two of those came from the racquet of junior Garrett Bear (Indianapolis, Ind.). Bear, picking up his second singles win of the 2016-17 season to join sophomore Connor Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind.) atop the team ladder, rallied past the Yellow Jackets' Brian Kurtz 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 at number five. He also paired with Eichenauer for a win at number two doubles, as the duo toppled Tory Savage and Daniel Fabelo 8-3.
More bright spots came from Eichenauer and freshman Gavin Eads (Bourbon, Ind.) who both captured five game wins in a set of singles play and the doubles' team of junior Kyler Love (North Webster, Ind.) and freshman Dalton Bailey (Bourbon, Ind.) captured five game victories at number three.
The Spartans (1-4 overall, 1-2 HCAC) return home to face preseason league favorite Rose-Hulman Friday, April 14. First serve at the university's outdoor courts is 4 p.m.
