Led by junior Bobby Swaby (Farmersburg, Ind.), Manchester University picked up a singles and doubles win in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference dual action versus Franklin Sunday, April 7.
Cruising into singles action having already secured an 8-5 victory at one doubles against the Grizzles'Blake Wareham and Ryan Hammer with sophomore partner Kyle Lahman (North Manchester, Ind.), Swaby continued his run on the day at No. 2 singles with yet another impressive win. Swaby, winning set one 6-3, was pushed to a third set decider after dropping the second set 7-5 to Hammer. However, he rebounded to take the third set decision 6-3.
The Black and Gold (1-8 overall, 0-3 HCAC) dropped the contest with Franklin 7-2 despite Swaby's impressive run. Regardless of the defeat, many Spartans held close matches including sophomore Alex Winger (Warsaw, Ind.) who took Evan Pierle to three sets at No. 6 singles, falling 4-6, 7-5, 5-10.
Manchester resumes its HCAC schedule with another home match Wednesday, April 10, against Defiance College of Ohio. First serve is 4:00 p.m.
