WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. – Competing against some of the state's best, Manchester University had reason to be excited about its 2017-18 season prospects at the completion of the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships Saturday, Oct. 21.
Coach Mike Kroll's women's team, compiling 48 points at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatics Center, nearly rearranged the entire program's top 10 best times list during the afternoon. The 200-yard freestyle crew of freshmen Bailey Conder (Greenwood, Ind.); Kaitlyn McCloughan (Columbia City, Ind.); and Shelby Kell (Charlottesville, Ind.) joined junior Mikayla Goetz (Highland, Ind.) to set a new record (1:54.79) as part of a 12th-place finish. Kell put herself in the all-time top five in the 50-yard freestyle (26.68); 200-yard freestyle (2:11.21); and the 500-yard freestyle (6:01.9), while fellow classmates Sierra Hall (Woodburn, Ind.), in the 50-yard backstroke (33.45 seconds); Bailey Conder (Greenwood, Ind.) in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.52); and Katie Blystone (Carmel, Ind.), in the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.71), 50-yard breaststroke (36.53 seconds), and 200-yard individual medley (2:35.4) did so, too.
The Black and Gold men's team had similar success in regards to re-charting the all-time top 10. Sophomore Christain Poole (Anderson, Ind.) clocked the third-fastest 50-yard backstroke (26.89 seconds); freshman Jacob Ramer (Crawfordsville, Ind.) touched the pad in 1:07.92 in the 100-yard backstroke for the fourth-fastest clocking; and freshman Donnie Rader's (Lima, Ohio) 25.52 in the 50-yard butterfly ranked fifth at MU. Kroll's squad concluded the afternoon with 50 points.
Manchester University gets back in the pool for dual action Saturday, Nov. 4, welcoming Baldwin-Wallace of the Ohio Athletic Conference to Strauss-Peabody Aquatic and Fitness Center for a 1 p.m. start.
