Five Black and Gold athletes earned all-league awards to represent Manchester University's men's soccer team. Josh Gonzalez (Portage, Ind.) was named the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer Offensive Player of the Year to headline the Spartans. Joining Gonzalez were Drake DeWitt (Columbia City, Ind.), Brandon Renninger (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Matthew Roop (West Lafayette, Ind.), and Samuel Tetteh-Quarshie (Accra, Ghana).
Gonzalez, who was named HCAC Freshman of the Year a year ago, added 2018 Offensive MVP to his resume. The sophomore forward led the league with nine goals and 21 points scored in nine matches. In overall season play, Gonzalez tallied 14 goals, six assists, 34 points, and scored four game winning goals. The forward now has career totals of 18 goals, 12 assists, and 48 points.
DeWitt earned first-team all-HCAC honors for his second straight all-league honor. The senior forward recorded nine goals, eight assists, 26 points, and two game winning goals during the 2018 season. The senior concluded his career with 14 goals, 15 assists, and 43 points.
Renninger joinedd DeWitt on the all-HCAC first-team, after earning second-team in 2017 and honorable mention inn 2016. The junior defender started every match this season by anchoring a defense that only allowed eight goals in nine HCAC matches. He also scored one goal, and taliied two points on the season.
Roop was named all-HCAC honorable mention for his efforts on defense. The junior started every match this season, while also helping Renninger and MU's backfield record three shutouts against HCAC opponents. Roop also recorded one assist and one point for 2018.
Tetteh-Quarshie was named on the Christopher M. Ragsdale All-Sportsmanship Team for his leadership during 2018.
