BLUFFTON, OHIO - A strong Spartan offense led the Black and Gold to a 5-0 win over Bluffton University on Wednesday, October 24.
Manchester shot six times before sophomore Josh Gonzalez (Portage, Ind.) sent his first goal into the back of the net with eight minutes left in the first period. The Spartans had a hot offense in the first half by outshooting the Beavers, nine-three. Going into the second half, Manchester's strikers didn't stop there. Eight minutes into the second period, a goal by freshman Drew Gavit (Fishers, Ind.) gave the Spartans a 2-0 lead. Three goals were then scored between the 60 and 70 minute marks. Junior Alex Baker (Fort Wayne, Ind.), tallied himself a goal (64:26), Gonzalez scored his second of the day (66:45), and junior Max Baker (Fort Wayne, Ind.) added one of his own (67:17) to lock the final score at 5-0.
Adding to the Spartan offense were seniors Samuel Tetteh-Quarshie (Accra, Ghana), and Drake DeWitt (Columbia City, Ind.) with one assist each. Manchester outshot Bluffton 23-4 en route to the win, with senior Justin Meredith (Shelbyville, Ind.) recording the shutout with three saves.
The Manchester men's soccer team is back in action Saturday, October 27 at home for Senior Day. The Spartans will face the Quakers of Earlham College with a 3:30pm start.
