Yellow Jackets Strike Early - Too Much for Spartans

Yellow Jackets Strike Early - Too Much for Spartans

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. - While the Spartans tried to fight back a 2-1 lead against Defiance in the first half, it was just short of enough as Manchester fell to Defiance, 3-1.

Although Manchester's Drake DeWitt (Columbia City, Ind.) took his first shot on goal within the first half minute of the match, Defiance's Luca DeMartino found the back of the net first to put the Yellow Jackets up 1-0 in the fifth minute. After one Manchester shot on goal, and two more from Defiance, Jarren Castro tallied himself a goal for the Yellow Jackets. Eight minutes later, DeWitt put Manchester on the board with a beautiful shot, pushing the score 2-1 with Defiance leading into the half. Manchester continued to strike in the second period, but Defiance proved to stay on top after scoring their last goal with eight minutes left in the match.

DeWitt led the Spartan offense with their lone goal to go along with three shots on goal, while sophomore Josh Gonzalez (Portage, Ind.) and senior Josh McCoy (LaPorte, Ind.) tallied one shot on goal apiece.

The Spartans are now 4-9-1 overall, and 3-3 in league play. They will look to improve their record at home on Saturday, October 20 against Rose Hulman at 3:30PM.
