Standing Strong – Road win keeps MU among league first five

FRANKLIN, IND. – Sophomore forward Josh Gonzalez (Portage, Ind.) compiled his 11th and 12th career goals, and senior goalkeeper Justin Meredith (Shelbyville, Ind.) tallied his second career shutout, helping send Manchester University to a crucial Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Gonzalez' seventh and eighth scores of the season, moving him into a tie for the loop's goals lead and first in the points race (20), were added to single successful shot on goal tries from senior forward Drake DeWitt (Columbia City, Ind.) and junior defender Brandon Renninger (Fort Wayne, Ind.) to finalize head coach Corey Brueggeman's program's 4-0 victory at Franklin College's Faught Field. The Black and Gold's second conference and overall positive in its last three outings kept them firmly in the conference's postseason tournament landscape, as they are tied for fifth with Mt. St. Joseph University of Ohio, a point behind Transylvania University of Kentucky for the first four.

DeWitt's five total offensive aims, four of which were issued squarely on the frame of the Grizzlies' net, guided a 16-7 shots advantage. Meredith wound up with three saves.

MU (4-8-1 overall, 2-2 HCAC) continues back-to-back road contests Saturday, Oct. 13. Start time at MSJ's Schueler Field in Cincinnati is 3:30 p.m.
