They faced off against traditional Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional and NCAA Division III national powers Hope College and Calvin College … Friday's visit to Holland saw the host Flying Dutchmen break away from a late first-half scoreless tie to post a goal before halftime and two more after the intermission to win 3-0, while Saturday's trek to Grand Rapids finished with a convincing 8-0 decision for the host Knights … Eight different Spartans registered shot attempts, as junior midfielder Alex Baker (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and junior defender Brandon Renninger (Fort Wayne, Ind.) tallied a shot on frame each. Defensively, senior goalkeeper Justin Meredith (Shelbyville, Ind.) compiled 13 saves in a pair of net starts … A couple of seniors, a junior and a sophomore represented Manchester University on the "Players to Watch" section of the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer coaches poll. Midfielder Drake DeWitt (Columbia City, Ind.) and forward Jared Wondergem (Hudsonville, Ind.) were the senior designees. Renninger and sophomore forward Josh Gonzalez (Portage, Ind.) rounded out the quartet of Spartans' honorees. The program, fresh off an appearance in the conference postseason tournament in 2017, was picked fourth. They garnered 68 points just ten shy of being among the first three. Transylvania University and Hanover College went one-two with Transylvania collecting 91 points and nine first-place votes and Hanover picking up 79 points and one first-place vote.
