Black and Gold begin back-to-back road contests

The 2017 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference campaign rolls along Wednesday, Oct. 4, for Manchester University.

Match details: MU takes a short southern trip to Anderson University's Macholtz Stadium for a 3 p.m. kickoff … Live audio, stats and video can be followed at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics … The Spartans' men's program has earned a win and tie in the last two editions against the Ravens, while Anderson triumphed in the previous six match-ups.

Spartan Shorts: A recurring theme of close-knit finishes for Coach Corey Brueggeman's side resumed Sept. 30, as Hanover held off the Spartans 1-0 in overtime on the Good Field pitch. MU (4-6 overall, 0-1 HCAC) has been involved in seven matches to date decided by one goal with three victories to their credit … Senior goalkeeper Brady Forman (Hastings, Mich.) resumed his nearly lockdown-like efforts in net in the league opener. He knocked away five visiting shot on goal attempts to raise his season saves' total to 57, tying for the conference's top spot statistically. His 81.4 save percentage is fourth best, and his 1.33 goals-against average is just outside the top five … The Black and Gold offense is balanced with six players contributing at least one point and five registering one goal-or-more. Freshman forward Josh Gonzalez (Portage, Ind.) leads the way (three goals, two assists and eight points); junior midfielder Ben Niederhelman (Ross, Ohio) is tied with him for the assists' top lead; and Gonzalez' 22 total strikes are joined by junior forward Drake DeWitt's (Columbia City, Ind.) nine shot on goal attempts for firsts in shots numbers.

Rose-Hulman Twinbill: Manchester University's men's and women's teams face a weekend doubleheader at Rose-Hulman Saturday, Oct. 7. Match times are 1 p.m. for the women and 3:30 p.m. for the men.
