Men to Albion, women travel to Otterbein Saturday

Manchester University men's and women's soccer teams both take to the road Saturday, Sept. 21. The men take on Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Albion at 2:30 p.m., while the women meet up with Ohio Athletic Conference member Otterbein at 3:30 p.m.

Match specifics: The Spartans-Britons men's match is set for Alumni Field on Albion's campus … The Spartans-Cardinals women's match will be played at Clements Field on Otterbein's campus … Live stats for the women's match can be accessed at, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics.

Spartan Shorts: Women – Manchester University (4-3-1) resumes a string of four matches against the OAC Saturday. They've had successful results, so far, with wins over Muskingum (Sept. 8) and Heidelberg (Sept. 18) … Junior forward Katelyn Barta (Griffith, Ind.) continued her recent torrid streak in Wednesday's win over Heidelberg. Her match-winning goal and assist on the first MU score moved her to seven goals, five assists and 19 points, each of which lead the program and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. It's even more impressive considering the junior has compiled the numbers in a span of five matches … Fellow juniors Sofie Tzortzinis (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) also hold rank in the HCAC's top five statistics' report. Tzortzinis' two assists are fifth-best, while Willmann is first in saves (60) and fifth in saves percentage (85.7) and goals-against average (1.28) … A win at Otterbein this weekend would be the Black and Gold's fifth of the year in just nine matches. It would keep the 2013 team on pace for MU's quickest start since the 2006 squad opened the year 7-3 en route to an 11-6-1 mark.

Men – Coach Dave Good's Spartans take a 1-4-1 record on their Michigan trek this weekend, looking to put a stop to a three-match skid … Sophomore goalkeeper Craig Thacker (Lebanon, Ind.) finds himself among the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's top five in saves (26) … Other team-leading numbers for Manchester University through six matches belong to junior midfielder Zac Hansen (Muskegon, Mich.) who tops the offense with two goals and an assist for five points and is first in with 10 overall shots, while he and freshman forward/midfielder Chris Hosier (Kokomo, Ind.) are tied with Hansen for the shot-on-goal lead (three). Hosier owns the only game-winning score of the season.

Non-Conference Action Wraps Up: MU's men go to Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Mich., for a midweek match Tuesday, Sept. 24, and then return home to take on Ohio Northern University Saturday, Sept. 28. The Spartan women's squad has a one-match schedule next week, traveling to Wilmington College in Ohio Saturday, Sept. 28.
