NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – Senior point guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind. / Fall Creek) was tabbed as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Last week, Johnson averaged 23 points, seven assists, and five rebounds over two games.
On Monday February 4, Johnson led the Spartans to an 83-71 victory over Earlham College. Adrian poured in 20 points, six assists, five rebounds, and three steals against the Quakers. Johnson followed Monday's effort with 26 points, eight assists and five rebounds against Transylvania. Johnson hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 2.6 seconds left to give the Spartans a 73-71 lead, before a Pioneer buzzer-beater snapped MU's four-game win streak.
Johnson has had a stellar senior campaign for the Spartans. Adrian leads the conference with 5.2 assists per game and ranks second in scoring with a career-best 19.9 points per game. He has scored 20 or more points nine times this season and in four consecutive games. Adrian also moved into fifth-place all-time in Manchester University history with 1,757 career points.
The Spartans are 4-1 over their last five games and will travel to Franklin tonight for a 7:30 p.m. tip with the Grizzlies.
