Spartan Shorts – The beginning of 2017-18 "Finals Week" for the Spartans saw the team earning high marks in an 85-81 win over Bluffton University at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena Feb. 14. They gave their fans plenty to cheer about, overcoming a pair of early three-point deficits by scoring five of the first half's final seven points to lead 43-39 at the break and extending that roll to 12-4 early in the second frame for a 50-41 advantage in route to the win. Senior guard Brody Kirby (Frankfort, Ind.) kicked off his last days in a Black and Gold uniform in high style, tallying 26 points which were keyed by an 11-of-11 effort at the free throw line and converting on three-of-four three-point attempts. He also shared the steals' lead with fellow Class of 2018 member Kenny Doss, Jr., (Chicago, Ill.) (two). Justin Lukens (Herrin, Ill.) continued the senior theme with 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists, and junior guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) tallied 19 points and dished out six assists … Johnson's current double-digit scoring string moved to nine mid-week. He goes into the season finale second on the loop scoring charts (18.9 ppg) and third in assists (4.3 pg). His 1,363 career points rank sixth all-time … The Class of 2018 resume has seen a pair of HCAC tournament appearances which featured a run to the Final Four a year ago. They've also aided in a pair of double-digit win campaigns including a high-water mark of 11 in 2015-16 which was the most since 2011-12.
