Break Through: Spartans snap skid, claim consolation title

ATLANTA, GA. – Senior guard Brody Kirby picked an important time to post a new personal single-game points high.

The Frankfort, Ind., native tossed in 21 points Saturday, Dec. 30, including hitting on all three of his three-point attempts, guiding Manchester University past Ozarks University of Arkansas 86-72. His first 20-point-plus collegiate total to go with four rebounds, three assists and a steal played a pivotal role in allowing Coach Gerad Good's side to stop an eight-game skid.

MU, improving to 2-9, got out to a fast start, scoring 11 of the first 13. Ozarks responded for a brief one-point edge midway through the opening half before the Black and Gold put the outcome on ice with a 30-14 roll over the final 12:46 of the first stanza.

Kirby wasn't alone in double digits. Senior forward/center Enis Becirevic (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished with 17 points and grabbed four boards, and the upperclassman guard duo of juniors Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Justin Lukens (Herrin, Ill.) added 10 apiece. They each dished off five assists.

The Spartans move back into Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday, Jan. 3. They tip-off at 7:30 p.m. inside the Spurlock Center on Franklin College's campus.
