ATLANTA, GA. – In a game that saw both sides put up big streaks, a span of nearly four minutes to begin the second half proved the difference Friday, Dec. 29.

Manchester University had been able to answer a 25-7 start by Geneva College of Pennsylvania in the opening stanza, going on a 23-5 roll to end the first 20 minutes tied at 30. However, a scoring drought to begin the second frame was costly, as Geneva went on an 8-0 stretch and didn't look back in route to a 71-65 victory. The Tornadoes' win started off play in Oglethorpe University of Georgia's Holiday Inn Express and Suites tournament.

Despite seeing an eighth straight defeat continue a difficult 1-9 start to 2017-18, Coach Gerad Good's side was the beneficiary of more balanced scoring. Senior forward Kenny Doss, Jr., (Chicago, Ill.) tallied team-leading totals of 16 points and seven rebounds off the bench, while junior guard Allen Jones (Chicago, Ill.) drained four three-pointers for a 12-point output in 17 minutes of action. Senior guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) topped the starter, tallying 10 points, five rebounds and three assists as part of his 16th straight double-digit point effort.

The Black and Gold conclude competition in the Peachtree City Saturday, Dec. 30. They tackle the loser of the second semifinal between the host Stormy Petrels and Ozarks College of Arkansas at 2 p.m. in the consolation finale.
