The Spartans, standing 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the HCAC, have dropped five in a row, while the Quakers are 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the league. The Black and Gold, including a split of last year's results, has won nine of the previous 14 in recent series history.
Spartan Shorts: Coach Gerad Good saw another balanced offensive attack from his team fall just short Dec. 6. Junior guard David Stinson (Aurora, Ill.) created bedlam at SWA with a corner three-ball that nestled safely in the net for the 52-52 tie with only 13 seconds left. Thomas More College had a chance to win it at the horn, but a jump shot fell off to force overtime. The extra session saw the Saints open as large as a seven-point lead before holding on for a 61-57 decision. As they did at several critical junctures in the second half, TMC took advantage of second-chance opportunities due to 10 offensive rebounds which included one that set up junior guard Ryne Callahan for a dagger trey in the closing moments of the extra session. Despite the close-knit defeat, junior guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) reeled off his 13th straight double-figure scoring game with 18 points adding to in three assists to guide the Black and Gold (1-6). MU also received a pair of monster games inside the paint from senior forward/center Enis Becirevic (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and junior guard Justin Lukens (Herrin, Ill.). They both notched double-doubles, as Becirevic posted 10 points and 11 rebounds as well as a blocked shot, and Lukens turned in 12 points, ten rebounds, and four assists … Johnson's double-figure run has helped him move into second in the league in points per game (20.6). Becirevic is also among the HCAC top five in rebounding, averaging 6.1 per contest. The high five marks don't stop there, as Stinson and senior guard Brody Kirby (Frankfort, Ind.) are four-five in steals, averaging 1.9 and 1.7 per game, respectively.
Busy Holiday Season – Manchester University takes to the road for a loop doubleheader at Rose-Hulman Saturday, Dec. 16. Game times are 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men. Following the clashes at the Hulbert Center in Terre Haute, the women visit the west coast for games at San Diego Christian College and Redlands University Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 18 and 19, while the men take a southern sojourn to Atlanta, Ga., for the Oglethorpe University Holiday Inn Express and Suites tournament Friday and Saturday, Dec. 29 and 30. MU's women add their final non-conference regular season meeting over winter break with a trip to Beloit College of Wisconsin Saturday, Dec. 30.
