Spartan Shorts: With four games remaining on the 2016-17 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season schedule, Manchester University remains on the postseason tournament landscape, tied with Bluffton University for sixth place. Coach Gerad Good's side owns the tiebreaker against the Beavers due to winning both ends of their head-to-head series, but Defiance College and Franklin College lurk one and two games behind, respectively, and each have collected wins over the Spartans … MU (7-14 overall, 5-9 HCAC) looks to stem a tide of four losses in its last six games. Home victories over Bluffton Feb. 1 and Earlham College Jan. 21 account for the victories … The Black and Gold is coming off a close-knit 67-58 loss to league co-leading Hanover College Feb. 4. Senior guard Tyler Alexander (Indianapolis, Ind.) resumed an impressive recent run despite the defeat. Adding to a four-game stretch where he's averaged better than 22 points and nearly nine rebounds (8.75) per appearance, the senior registered 22 points, seven rebounds and two steals while continuing a run of 14 straight contests in which's he hit 50 percent or better from the field to lead the way. Sophomore guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore forward Evan Romie (Anna, Ohio) were next in line scoring-wise with nine points each. Johnson also registered seven rebounds and four steals … Alexander headlines the team members ranked on the conference's statistical top 10. He's listed in four categories (scoring – 18.2 ppg – No. 5; rebounding – 7 pg – No. 4; field goal percentage – 63 – No. 3; and steals – 1.4 pg – No. 7). Freshman guard Erik Bell (Evansville, Ind.), Johnson and senior guard Chase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.) join their teammate in the territory, as Bell is third in assists (3.6 pg); Johnson continues to lead the steals' category (2.2 pg); and Casteel is seventh in blocked shots (.8 pg).
Rose-Hulman Trip: MU and the Fightin' Engineers square off in a 2 and 4 p.m. doubleheader inside Rose-Hulman's Hulbert Arena at Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday, Feb. 11. It's the Spartans' final road trip of the 2016-17 regular season.
