MU pushes HCAC co-leaders, falls in close-knit contest

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Senior guard Tyler Alexander (Indianapolis, Ind.) resumed an impressive recent run Saturday, Feb. 4.

Adding to a four-game stretch where he's averaged better than 22 points and nearly nine rebounds (8.75) per appearance, Alexander registered 22 points, seven rebounds and two steals while continuing a run of 14 straight contests in which's he hit 50 percent or better from the field to guide Coach Gerad Good's side against Hanover College. Unfortunately for Black and Gold fans inside Stauffer-Wolfe Arena, the senior was the lone home team player in scoring double digits, as MU, falling to 7-14 overall and 5-9 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, suffered from cold shooting overall (33.3 percent) as part of a 67-58 loss to the league co-leaders.

Manchester University held early first half leads before the visiting Panthers went on a 16-3 run in the second half of the opening stanza to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The Spartans closed to two at halftime, as Alexander drilled a fade away three-ball at the buzzer but went scoreless over the first four minutes of the second half and couldn't recover.

Sophomore guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore forward Evan Romie (Anna, Ohio) were next in line scoring-wise with nine points each. Johnson also registered seven rebounds and four steals.

The Spartans, still a part of the top six on the loop standings, take to the road Wednesday, Feb. 8. They take on Anderson University at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium on AU's campus in a 7:30 p.m. start.
