Game details: Tip-off time is 7:30 p.m. at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena … Live audio, statistics and video can be accessed via a link at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics … In recent series history, MU holds a slim 15-11 edge which includes winning a 67-65 thriller on the road early last month.
Spartan Shorts: Coming off a tremendous 33-point, nine-rebound effort at Mt. St. Joseph this past weekend, senior guard Tyler Alexander (Indianapolis, Ind.) continued to enjoy residence in the HCAC's statistical top 10. His 17.8 points per game are fifth-highest, while his 63.1 rate of conversion from the field is third; his 6.8 boards per outing rank seventh; and the 1.3 steals per game he picks off are eighth-best. He's joined by sophomore guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.), senior guard Chase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.) and freshman guard Erik Bell (Evansville, Ind.). Johnson's free throw percentage (80.3) is eighth, and he's the league steals' leader (2.1 pg); Casteel is tied for eighth in blocked shots (.7 pg); and Bell's 3.5 assists per outing stand third … MU's leading scorer added a second 30-points-plus outing to his resume this season, as this time it came against the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference co-leaders. Proving a thorn in the side of the Lions' defense throughout the evening at the Harrington Center Jan. 28, Alexander went 13-of-18 from the field hitting his only three-point attempt, was six-of-seven at the charity stripe and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Spartans in a hard-fought 72-64 loss. Johnson joined his teammate in double figures with 13 points to go along with a pair of assists and steals. Bell was just a point shy of double digits but led the squad with six assists. Coach Gerad Good's team (6-13 overall, 4-8 HCAC) scored 13 of the game's first 19 points and held the lead throughout the first 20 minutes. However, MSJ used a brief run late in the opening stanza to hold a 28-27 edge at the break and went on a 19-4 stretch over the first 10 minutes of the second half to aid them in the victory … Casteel's stay on the conference's blocked shots' top 10 has been due, in large part, to a current run of four straight contests with at least one. He's averaging 1.5 per appearance in the stretch. Looking at other Manchester University trends, Alexander, since being held to eight points against Earlham Jan. 21, is on a roll, averaging 23 points, seven and a half rebounds and one and a half steals while hitting at a 70.3 percent clip from the field and right at 70 percent from the charity stripe during his last two games played. Bell comes into the evening with a run of 10 successive outings where he's dished off two-or-more assists, good for an average of more than five a game in the span.
Hanover Twinbill: MU takes on the Panthers Saturday, Feb. 4, at the SWA. Tip-off times are 1 p.m. for the women and 3 p.m. for the men.
