Manchester University continues to battle its way through the second half of the 2016-17 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference season Saturday, Jan. 28.

Spartan Shorts: Coach Gerad Good's team looks to work its way up the loop ladder. Manchester University, winners of five of its last eight, stands 6-12 overall and 4-7 in the HCAC for sixth place. They trail Rose-Hulman for fifth by two games and are just a half-game ahead of Bluffton University and a full game in front of Defiance College in the chase for the conference's postseason tournament … Sophomore guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) seems to be all over the court of late. He's averaging 14.25 points and better than four steals and just under four assists over his last four contests. Due to the run, he's jumped to 13th in scoring (14.8 ppg), is the loop leader in steals by two-tenths (2.1 pg) and is in the top 10 in assists (10th – 2.7 pg) … Fellow sophomore guard Erik Bell (Evansville, Ind.) is also seeing his conference stock grow. With a run of nine consecutive outings in which he's dished out multiple assists, he's climbed to third (3.3 pg) in the league … Bell and Johnson's numbers aren't the only areas where the Black and Gold are seeing conference notoriety. Senior guard Tyler Alexander (Indianapolis, Ind.) is eighth in scoring (17 ppg), ninth in rebounding (6.7 pg) and fourth in field goal accuracy (62.3 pct.). Johnson adds a top 10 listing in free throw percentage (80 – T-9th), while senior guard Chase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.) isn't far off a similar pace in blocked shots (11th - .6 pg) … On a national level, Alexander and Johnson's numbers play well, too. Alexander sports the 15th-highest field goal percentage, and Johnson is among the top 50 in total steals (No. 48 – 38).
Bluffton Series Renewal: Manchester University's men host BU Wednesday, Feb. 1, while the women make the eastern trip to the Sommer Center. Tip-off times are 7:30 p.m. at each venue.
