RICHMOND, IND. – Manchester University put four players into scoring double digits Sunday, Dec. 18, but it wasn't enough for them to move into the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory column.
Earlham College's Elijah Wilson-Thomas drained a three-pointer with three seconds remaining in overtime inside Druley Performance Gymnasium, leading the host Quakers past the Spartans 80-77. MU, dropping to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in the conference with its sixth defeat by nine points-or-less, had the host team on the ropes late in regulation, leading 72-68 with 55 seconds left, before EC reeled off four straight points and averted a pair of three-point shot attempts in the final 20 seconds to force the extra session.
Senior guard Tyler Alexander (Indianapolis, Ind.) registered his eighth straight double-figure scoring effort for the Black and Gold, tallying 17 points to go with seven rebounds and three assists. Sophomore guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) ran off his sixth successive double-digit outing, scoring 16 points to go with five rebounds. Senior guard Blake Brouwer (Elkhart, Ind.) proved strong on the inside and outside for Coach Gerad Good's side with 15 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots, while junior forward Kenny Doss (Chicago, Ill.) ended with 14 points.
The Spartans, looking to snap a four-game skid, return to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena Monday, Dec. 19. They host D3Hoops.com No. 19-ranked North Park University of Illinois for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
