Spartan Shorts: Sophomore guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) and senior guard Tyler Alexander (Indianapolis, Ind.) each tallied a combined 27 points over MU's two-game Michigan road swing Nov. 18 and 19 to lead the scoring column in a 76-67 loss to Kalamazoo and a 78-56 defeat at the hands of Adrian. Other top numbers on the season-opening trip went to senior guard Chase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.) (11 rebounds); Alexander (nine assists, four steals, three three-point baskets); freshman guard Erik Bell (Evansville, Ind.) (three three-point baskets and 75 percent three-point shooting accuracy); Johnson (six-of-eight free throw conversion – 75.1 percent); junior forward/center Enis Becirevic (Fort Wayne, Ind.) (five of eight field goal conversion – 62.5 percent); and Alexander, Casteel, Becirevic, freshman guard Tyler Billups (Connersville, Ind.) and freshman forward/center Chris Hill (Fort Wayne, Ind.) (a blocked shot apiece) … Johnson's 18-point effort at Kalamazoo Nov. 18 resumed an impressive run for the sophomore. He's tallied scoring double figures in 22 of his 28 games in a Spartans' uniform … Manchester University's MIAA stretch concludes Wednesday, Nov. 30, when they welcome the Olivet College Comets to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start. The 2016-17 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference season begins Saturday, Dec. 3, when the Black and Gold takes a southern trek to Hanover College for a doubleheader with the women's program.
