HCAC second half starts Saturday

A southern journey to Richmond, Ind., Saturday, Jan. 23, is next on Manchester University's 2015-16 schedule.

Game details: Tipoff is 2 p.m. inside Earlham College's Athletics and Wellness Center … Live audio, statistics and video can be viewed via a link at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics.

Spartan Shorts: A mere three games separates places one through six on the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Standings as the loop's second half starts. Manchester University (8-8 overall, 5-4 conference) is part of the parade, sitting in a three-way tie for fourth with Transylvania University and Rose-Hulman … The Spartans attempted to move up a few spots in their final first half clash, staging a massive 24-6 rally to open the second 20 minutes at Anderson University Jan. 20. However, the Ravens answered with a similar stretch in route to a 96-80 final. Freshman guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) continued to be a force to be reckoned with, compiling his ninth straight double-figure scoring game with a collegiate career high 32 points that marked the second time he's hit the 30-mark over the course of the last five outings … Johnson's red-hot run has lifted him into third on the HCAC's scoring charts at 18.2 ppg, while he's also the conference's steals leader by averaging nearly two per game (1.9). The upperclassman trio of senior forward Matt Brown (Hobart, Ind.) and junior guards Blake Brouwer (Elkhart, Ind.) andChase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.) are also among the top five. Brown leads the league in three-point field goal accuracy (51.2); Brouwer is third in blocked shots (one per game) due to a stretch of four consecutive games with at least one; and Casteel ranks fifth in rebounding (6.9 pg) … The Black and Gold has won seven of the 11 contests against Earlham since the Quakers joined the HCAC which includes a 95-64 victory at home earlier this month.

Franklin Clashes: The Black and Gold men's squad hosts the Grizzlies at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena, while the women take a trip to Franklin College's Spurlock Center Wednesday, Jan. 27.
